[Also in Group XI] In a coffee machine of the kind in which the hot water is forced through the ground coffee by a spring loaded piston, the main cylinder 1 is surrounded by a water jacket 6 which communicates with a chamber 8 containing an electric immersion heater 9 and having a cold water inlet 12 so arranged that cold water entering from the mains supply impinges on a thermostat 10 which controls the heater 9.
