Abstract

751,360. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 5, 1954 [Jan. 5, 1953] No. 283/54. Class 40(2) [Also in Group XXII] Signals recorded on a magnetic tape 11, which signals may be used for controlling a mechanism, are reproduced at a slow tape speed by (a) intensifying the signals by vibrating the tape by means of a rotating hexagonal roller 23, (b) reciproeating the tape by an arm 34, Fig. 2, (c) rotating a bar 37 of highly permeable materiel in the non-magnetic gaps of the reproducing heads 36. In operation, the tape is driven quickly by a motor 15, and a pulsed synchronizing signal generated by a control 22 is recorded by a magnetic head 17. Control signals are then recorded by the head 18. The control signals are synchronized with the synchronizing signals, the interval between which represents a predetermined time interval, by picking up the synchronizing signals by means of a head 19 and feeding these signals to the control 22, to which the control signals are also fed. The tape is then driven at slow speed by a motor 16 and the signals reproduced by the heads 17, 18. The reproduced signals are fed to amplifiers 26, 27 and through relays 28, 29 to coding circuits 31 a desired one of which is actuated to perform the desired control of the mechanism.
