Abstract
748,784. Electric motors. EDWARDS & CO. (LONDON), Ltd., W. Dec. 15, 1954 [June 12, 1963], No. 16313/53. Class 36. [Also in Groups XIII and XVII] In a vacuum freeze drying apparatus for serum or vaccines (see Group XIII) in which a bottle or ampoule containing the serum is rotated in a vacuum chamber while being frozen the chamber assembly between plates 15, 16 includes a foraminated metal tube 17 the lower portion of which constitutes a squirrel-cage rotor 20 of an electric motor and the stator field winding 21 is disposed thereabout. The tube rotor is mounted to rotate within a tube 22 of glass or other high resistance material disposed between the stator and the rotor and which constitutes a vacuum freezing chamber into which the bottles are fed individually through port 13, the fall of the bottle being arrested by a centrifugally-operated peg 46 carried by a circular clip 47 on the rotor, the peg being caused to project when the rotor attains a predetermined speed.
