Abstract

743,831. Clamp fastenings. MUDD, D. P. May 12, 1954 [Nov. 13, 1953], No. 31574/53. Class 44. [Also in Group I] A fitting for connecting a tubular handrail 1 to a standard 2. comprises a fork element 3 having arms 4 which define therebetween a dovetail channel. The element 3 also comprises a shoulder 10 and a dowel 7 which is formed with depressions 8 adapted to receive internal projections punched from the standard. The fitting also comprises jaws 16 which are locked to the element 3 by a grub-screw 22; the abutting faces of the jaws being formed with interlocking vertical ribs and grooves, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a modification both jaws 16 are formed with indentations 23 to receive grub screws in which case the interlocking means are omitted. The railing 1 can be locked to a jaw 16 by punching. Tho fittings may be made from cast malleable iron, steel, bronze, aluminium or aluminium alloy. When the fittings are made of soft or malleable metal the bores 13 may be omitted or plugged.
