In a cathode-ray tube astigmatism of the image produced by the electromagnetic focusing and deflecting coils is corrected by the adjustment of the currents flowing through a plurality of electromagnetic coils disposed around the neck of the tube with their axes parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the neck. The coils may be disposed around the outer cylindrical surface of the focusing coil, or around the neck between the electron gun and the focusing coil. Four coils uniformly distributed around the neck of the tube may be provided, with diametrically opposed coils connected in series. The cathode-ray tube may be a receiver tube, storage or transmitting tube such as an image iconoscope or a monoscope.
