Abstract
721,244. Baling-presses. JONES, D. T., and JONES, G. Aug. 6, 1953 [July 23, 1952], No. 18568/52. Class 94 (1). The power transmission system of a baling press comprises a longitudinal shaft 11 which is offset from the centre line of the baling chamber and carries at one end a pinion 25, meshing with a crown wheel 33 on a transverse crankshaft 32, 32a driving the ram, and at the other end a fly wheel pulley 12 disposed externally of the body 10 of the press and having mounted thereon means, e.g. a universal coupling 16, for connection to the power take-off of a tractor or other towing vehicle. The fly wheel 12 may thus be driven either through the coupling 16 or by means of a belt from a stationary source, of power. The fly wheel is a running fit on the shaft and is connected to a flanged member 17, keyed to the shaft, by a shear pin 20 or other overload release coupling. The crank arms 38 are coupled by a pin 40 to a connecting rod '41 which reciprocates the ram. A sprocket 48 on the shaft 32a drives the "pick-up" rotor and other working parts of the press, such as the bale-tying mechanism, are driven from a shaft 42 carrying a bevel gear 45 which meshes with a bevel gear 46 on the shaft 32a.
