[Also in Groups XXXVI and XXXVIII] The sensitive element in an electrical pickup or microphone consists of an electrical non- conducting material of low permanent set having an adherent coating of a pulverulent electrically conducting material on its surfaces. The non-conducting material may be sponge rubber (natural or synthetic) or a sponge of a polymer of vinyl acetate or chloride or a copolymer of both, or of regenerated cellulose or of a cellulose ether or ester. Alternatively it may be a solid elastic material. The conducting material may be powdered graphite, acetylene or furnace black or pulverulent metals, e.g. tungsten.
