Abstract

716,383. Centrifugal separators. CORY & SON, Ltd., W. Jan. 13, 1953 [Oct. 16, 1951], No. 24105/51. Class 23 A cyclone separator chamber comprises one or more helices 6 formed around an inverted cone 3, the chamber being of substantially the same cross - sectional are a throughout i.e. equal tc the area of an inlet duct 2. Entrained particles are flung outwards over a lip 10 against an end wall 8, and pass downwards through an annular space 11. The velocity of flow of the vapour or gases remains practically constant throughout Cleaned gas continues to flow upwards. The separator may form a cowl secured by the inlet 2 on a chimney or flue, to separate grit from flue gases. The height of the ring 8 relative to the lip 10, may be adjustable. The tip 13, of the member 3, may be of cast iron or other wear-resistant material. The pitch at each helix may be varied but preferably each helix makes one complete revolution in its length. The separator may be in a chimney below the top of the latter.
