Abstract

<PICT:0714254/III/1> <PICT:0714254/III/2> Means for abstracting metal from lubricating oil comprises a bar magnet detachably mounted on a spring clip in an oil sump or in a position for oil, in a circulating system, to flow there-over. The magnet 1 may be held in the arms of a spring clip 2 on a bridge 3 of non-magnetic metal held in a sump plug 6 by spring legs 4. The magnet is centralized by recesses engaged by the arms of the clip or by extrusions of the clip engaging the magnet ends. Alternatively, the spring clip may be welded or screwed to the oil sump casing. A gear box or differential casing may similarly be fitted or a pipe line may have inserted therein a pressing 9 mounting the spring clip and magnet 1, a deflector 11 causing the oil to flow over the ends of the magnet. The Provisional Specification comprises also the use of an electromagnet.
