Abstract

696,745. Distributing music &c. COMMUNICATIONS PATENTS, Ltd. Feb. 26, 1952, No. 4968/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (iv). In a wired broadcasting system a control signal different from the signals pertaining to programme matter is distributed, a first means is provided in each subscriber's equipment which in response to the control signal restricts the use of at least one expendable component thereof, e.g. a C.R.T., and further means at a subscriber's equipment permits the action of the first means to be prevented to enable the equipment to be serviced. As described the control signal is a D.C. potential across the line wires which operates a relay at each subscriber's equipment to disconnect the desired components from the mains. The relay at any equipment may be disconnected from the line by a maintenance engineer operating a manual switch thereat prior to testing the equipment. The system may be a single or multi-programme one for sound and/or television.
