Abstract

689,887. Hardness testers. LEITZ GES., E. Nov. 9, 1951 [Nov. 16, 1950], No. 26259/61. Class 106 (ii). In a hardness tester of the type shown in Fig. 1 and comprising a support 1 carrying a movable arm 2 with a hardness tool holder 6 and a weight table 4 supporting a weight 5, the holder 6 is supported by yieldable means in the form of springs 7. Fig. 2 shows a crosssection of the holder 6 in which the hardness tool 11 is held in a member 10 resiliently mounted within the holder 6 by springs 7. The top ends 9, of the springs are fastened to the member 10 and the bottom ends 8, of the springs are fastened to the holder 6. In a modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5 two sets of springs 12, 14 support the member 10 via an intermediate piece 13. The two sets of springs 12 and 14 are disposed in planes at right angles to one another. It is stated that by means of the resilient mounting described above, small deflections of the supporting arm 2 caused by the weight 5 do not cause errors when the tool enters the test-piece and the arm 2 is relieved of the load of the weight 5.
