Abstract

683,965. Angular bending; twisting. BARR THOMSON & CO., Ltd., and MANSON, W. Feb. 8, 1951 [Feb. 13, 1950], No. 3571/50. Class 83 (iv). In a process of bending, a tube &c. is simultaneously twisted through an angle equal to the angle of bend to permit each longitudinal of the metal to retain its original length. The tube 11 is secured by a clamp 12 to a stationary member 1 and by a clamp 13 to a grooved former 8 co-operating with a former 7. Each former engages a bevel 4 gearing with a bevel 2 on the member 1. When a turntable 6 carrying the bevel gears 4 and the formers is rotated, the formers rotate about their axes to effect the bend and rotate about the tube axis to effect the twist.
