Abstract
675,624. Jet-propulsion plant. McDONNEL AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. May 8, 1950, No. 11360/50. Class 110(iii) A device for controlling the variable area exhaust orifice of a jet propulsion engine comprises annularly arranged segmental members 3 which are hinged to one end of the exhaust orifice defined by an annulus 2, and expansible means, such as tapered, resilient members 4 of triangular crosssection, secured to adjacent segmental members for bridging the space therebetween. Each member 4 has edges 4a and an enlargement 5 for attachment to the segmental members and a flat surface 5' on the annulus 2, respectively. The enlargements overlap, one another and are welded together and to the members 3. Each member 3 has a bracket 6 to receive a circumferentially arranged cable 7 operated by a reversible motor 8, 9.
