Abstract

665,477. Pile fabrics. TCHEKMEIAN, K. Feb. 1, 1950 [Feb. 1, 1949], No. 2739/49. Class 142(iv) A pile fabric is made by assembling cut pile threads on a temporary supporting surface with the threads standing on end, the length of each thread being equal to the height of pile required, and sticking the ends of the threads together or to a woven or other base. The threads, which are unwound from a beam 1, are cut between clamps 4 holding the threads. The cut threads are assembled in a tray 8 and the clamps removed. An adhesive 9 may be provided in the bottom of the tray, or the tray when filled with cut threads may be inverted and dipped into a bath of adhesive. The adhesive may have a latex base. A backing sheet may be stuck to the adhesive either by softening the adhesive or by applying another coat of adhesive. Pile fabrics of different shape, colour, and pattern may be produced. The pile threads are preferably thick yarns of wool, cotton, or silk.
