Abstract
656,891. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BAKER, W. F. Feb. 26, 1948, No. 5832. [Class 38 (ii)] A.H.F. transformer for induction apparatus comprises a toroidal primary winding 1 and a single-turn secondary winding 2 in the shape of an annular shell substantially closely surrounding the primary winding 1 but insulated from it by a layer of polythene 3. An annular gap 4 is provided along the inner periphery of the shell 2 and, at the edges of the said gap, a pair of parallel discs 5, 6, slightly spaced apart, are developed so as to serve as means to collect the secondary current to be supplied to a work coil through concentric feeder 9. The primary winding is fed by input leads 7. The transformer can be cooled by water from a tube 15 through one of the discs 5 and out through a second tube 16. Iron dust core may be used inside the primary winding 1. In order to destroy the primary winding external field, one of the primary winding leads is brought back along through the toroidal space within the primary. Alternatively, a thin, circumferentially split copper sheath may be located between the primary coil 1 and the core.
