Abstract

656,207. Cathode-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 15, 1948, Nos. 24275 and 24276. Convention dates, Sept. 23, 1947. [Class 39 (i)] The spacing of the fluorescent colour lines or strips on a screen is varied to correct for parallax distortion by the deflecting wires, the spacing being increased from the centre line of the screen outwardly in accordance with the equation relating the distance of the strips from the axis to that of the control grid elements. The screen is manufactured by preparing a set of printing-plates as in photo-engraving. A photographic plate 22 with a coating of emulsion 23 is exposed through a lined screen 19 from a source 21, the source, lined screen and photographic plate being in the same relative positions as the electron gun, deflection wires and fluorescent screen of the discharge tube. The negative so obtained is printed on to a photosensitive copper printing plate, the emulsion becoming acid-resistant at exposed points. The printing-plate is used to print adhesive upon the plate of the fluorescent screen and the appropriate fluorescent powder is dusted on, excess being removed by brushing or a stream of air. The process is repeated for each of the fluorescent colours green, red and blue, the spacing of the red and blue being three times that of the green, e.g. 0.005 inch lines and 0.015 inch spacing. The red printing-plate may be inverted and used as the blue printer.
