Abstract

646,787. Pipe joints. BROCKWAY CO. June 25, 1947, No. 16777. Convention date, Feb. 7. [Class 99(i)] A coupling body 10 has a conical projection 15 adapted to flare the end of the pipe 24 when the latter is drawn on to it, and a connector comprises a nut portion 26 and a sleeve portion 27 connected by a frangible web 32, the shape of the engaging parts of the body, sleeve and nut being such that when the nut is screwed into the body the web is broken, the sleeve is contracted on to the pipe, and continued operation of the nut then forces the pipe end on to the flare-forming projection. The connector has an external groove 30, Fig. 5, in the sleeve portion, and an internal groove 31 in the nut portion, both adjacent the frangible web, the bases 36, 37 of the grooves being inclined, curved or so formed that after fracture of the web they contact to force the end of the sleeve into the pipe. The nut portion is externally threaded and in a modification has a cylindrical end portion 53, Fig. 9, which engages the bore 41 of the body to resist expansion of the sleeve.
