Abstract

641,842. Dielectric heating. BATA, NARODNI PODNIK. April 6, 1948, No. 9587. Convention date, April 19, 1947. [Class 39(iii)] A strip 2 of rubber is vulcanised by heating in two separate field systems whilst passing through a heat insulating sleeve 3, 4. The first field system; existing between electrodes 5, 6, is of relatively greater intensity, whereby the strip is brought rapidly to the vulcanising temperature from the temperature at which it leaves the extrusion machine 1; the second field system existing between electrodes 7, 8 is of lesser intensity so as to maintain the vulcanising temperature during the required period, which is desired from the speed of traverse and the length of the electrode system, without further rise of temperature. The relative heating effects of the two field systems may be obtained by different voltage tappings on the H.F. transformer 9 as shown, or by different frequencies, or by different electrode spacing. The transformer 9, condenser 10 and the valves 11 constitute a known oscillating circuit. The vulcanised strip is wound on a reel 12.
