Abstract
628,714. Leaf-turner. SMITH, A. T. J. Oct. 8, 1947, No. 26992. [Class 52 (iii)] A leaf-turner comprises a motor and associated gearing 1 designed to impart oscillatory movement to an arm 2 carrying an electromagnet 3 which is energized through a commutator switch 15 mounted on the oscillating shaft 5. The magnet co-operates with a magnetic clip fixed to the leaf and when energized moves the leaf from right to left. The commutator switch 15 de-energizes the magnet when the leaf has turned to a position from which it may fall by gravity to the fully turned position. The actuating means is a pedal switch 23 normally biased open and in series with the starting contact 17 and brush 19. As soon as the motor is energized the brush 19 contacts the segment 18 whereupon the switch 23 may be released and the motor continues to run until, after reversal of the direction of rotation of shaft 5, the brush 19 is returned to contact 17.
