Abstract

622,395. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., SIMS, W. J., and PUGH, I. March 18, 1947, No. 7470. [Class 38(v)] The metal casing 4 of a cut-out for an electric kettle 2 has soldered to it the ends 10, 11 of a sheathed wire immersion heater 1 and houses an insulating base 7 carrying plug pins 8, 9. A bimetal strip 22 secured on a post 21 on the base 7 lies adjacent the wall 3 of the casing 4 and has a projection 24 which engages a channel-shaped resilient contact 17 fixed at one end to a terminal 16, and on rise of temperature separates the contact 17 from another resilient contact 19 secured at 20 to the plug pin 9. To impart a snap-action the contact 17 carries an apertured discular armature 26 and a pin 27 passing through the armature adjustably supports a magnet 25 above it. On cooling, the contacts 17, 19 re-engage.
