Abstract

1,1,1-Trifluoropropan-2-ol is produced by reacting 1,1,1-trifluoropropan-2-one with hydrogen under pressure in the presence of a Raney nickel catalyst. Temperatures of 50-85 DEG C. and pressures of 50-100 atmospheres are preferred. Four examples of the reaction are given showing the effect of various conditions of temperature, pressure and quantity of catalyst used.
