Abstract
616,739. Releasing torpedoes, bombs, &c. from aircraft. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and SCOTT, A. R. Sept. 10, 1946, No. 27220. [Class 9 (ii)] Relates to gear for temporarily attaching torpedoes, bombs or other stores to the usual release means on aircraft and is particularly applicable for use with the torpedo-carrying beam described in Specification 578,623. According to the present invention, a part 11 carrying the release hook 12 is lowered about the axis 10 by means such as a screw 14 acting in a nut in the part 11 and actuated by a pair of bevel wheels 15 and a detachable handle. The hook is then engaged in a lug on the torpedo (not shown) and the hook-carrying part 11 raised so as to bring the torpedo to boar against the crutches 7, 8, 9, 4, 5. The hook-carrying part and crutches are capable of rotation about a transverse axis parallel to the axis 10 or the crutches 7, 8 may be adjusted in vertical sense.
