616,119. Overload release clutches. MANUFACTURE DE MACHINES DU HAUT-RHIN. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25759. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1941. [Class 80 (ii)] An overload release clutch between a driving shaft 1 and a concentrically mounted hollow shaft 2 carrying a worm 3, comprises a member 7 slidably keyed to the driving shaft and having facial teeth 6 engaging similar teeth 5 on the shaft 2 under the action of a spring 8 bearing against a nut 9 secured to the shaft 1. On overload, the member 7 is forced axially along shaft 1 compressing the spring 8 until the hooked end of a pawl 11 mounted at 12 on the nut 9 engages the member 7 under the action of a spring 13, thereby permanently disengaging the clutch until pawl 11 is released. The device is particularly applicable to automatic lathes.
