Abstract
Chlorine dioxide is produced by reacting a chlorite with an organic acid anhydride. Acid anhydrides specified are those of phthalic, succinic, glutaric, glutaconic, maleic, acetic, propionic, butyric, isobutyric and stearic acids, with or without substituents, e.g. fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, methoxy, ethoxy, tertiary butoxy, nitro and sulphonic acid groups. Mixed acid anhydrides, e.g. acetobutyric anhydride, and mixtures of acid anhydrides may also be used. Chlorites specified are those of sodium and calcium. The process may be carried out in the presence of inert gases, e.g. air, nitrogen or carbon dioxide. When the process is carried out in solution, pH control agents and detergents including phosphates, polyphosphates, carbonates, percarbonates and hydrogen peroxide may be present.ALSO:Textiles are bleached by chlorine dioxide produced by reacting a chlorine with an organic acid anhydride (see Group III). When the process is carried out in solution processing agents such as pH control agents, and detergents, including phosphates, polyphosphates, carbonates, percarbonates and hydrogen peroxide, may be present.
