[Class 53] The electrolyte of a dry cell consists of a solution of lithium chloride with or without other salts such as ammonium chloride and zinc chloride. The amount of lithium chloride may vary up to 45 parts by weight to 100 parts of water and the solution is absorbed in a layer of paper, gelatinized starch, etc. and in the depolarizer. The presence of lithium chloride in the electrolyte is stated to improve the performance of the cell at low temperatures.
