Abstract

582,892. Television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Jan. 31, 1944, No. 1725. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1943. [Classes 39 (i), 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXV] A grid 14, Fig. 1, is placed in the path of an electron beam 17 and connected to an external circuit of a television transmission tube so that electric pulsations are produced on the grid or on the picture signals of a frequency depending on the scanning speed of traverse of the electron beam and this frequency is compared in tho circuit with a standard frequency to produce a correcting bias if the frequencies differ, the bias being applied to the scanning circuit to ensure uniform scanning speed. The grid 14 may comprise a single set of strands 18 in front of the usual mosaic 15 ; or, as shown in Fig. 3, the grid may comprise two interlaced sets of strands 79, 81, and a -capacity screen 70 is interposed between the grid and the mosaic 82. The pulsations produced on either of the two sets of strands 79, 81 may be used singly or in combination. In the circuit shown in Fig. 1, the frequency of the produced pulsations is compared with the frequency to which a resonating circuit 38, 39 is tuned, and a difference berween these frequencies causes a double diode combination 46, 47 to produce a voltage bias in one direction or the other between the outer ends of a resistance 43. This bias is fed into the grid circuit of an amplifier 52 in the circuit transmitting the scanning control to the cathode-ray tube.
