Abstract
582,126. Valve circuits for wireless reception. SCOLES. G..J., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO.,Ltd. Sept. 8, 1941, No. 10138. [Class 40 (v)] In a panoramic radio receiver in which a wave-band is scanned by automatic variation of tuning to show the frequencies at which transmissions may be taking place, a quickacting automatic volume control is applied to the radio or intermediate frequency stages so that strong signals are prevented from occupying a considerable width on the cathode-ray screen and so masking neighbouring signal waves. The scanning reactor may be associated with the second oscillator of a supersonic heterodyne as described in Specification 582,125 and the intermediate frequencies are chosen as described in Specification 582,127, and the signal detector be associated with a limiter as described in Specification 582,129. The Figure shows a three-stage superheterodyne in which oscillators 01, 02 and 03 and mixers M1, M2 and M3 provide frequency changes. The A.V.C. control voltage is taken from the detector D which may be a biassed valve with a resistive anode load, the negative going voltages across which are fed to the controlled valves through a condenser and constant resistance-capacity networks of low time constant.
