Abstract

567,997. Tubular heat - exchangers. SERCK RADIATORS, Ltd., and UPTON, H. E. July 20, 1943, Nos. 11807/43 and 3467/44. [Class 64 (iii)] Tubular heat-exchange apparatus comprises an inner tube a, an outer tube or casing c, a plurality of intermediate helical strips b<1>, b<2>, b<3> arranged in the form of a multi-start screwthread, so as to form with the other parts a, c two or more helical fluid paths in parallel, and a further outer tube or casing d forming with the tube c an annular space, the end of which is in communication with one end of the inner tube a. This annular space may contain helical strips e<1>, e<2>, e<3> similar to the strips b<1>, b<2>, b<3>. The helical strips may be formed with holes, projections or corrugations, and the helical fluid paths may contain obstructions consisting of thin strips, wires, rods or the like, to increase turbulence.
