Abstract
559,245. Electric cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 7, 1942, No. 11056. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1941. [Class 36] A high-frequency multicircuit communication cable has a highly conductive copper screen positioned lengthwise of the cable and a magnetic layer of iron tape transverse to the cable, the magnetic flux due to currents in the copper screen being nearly at right-angles to the axis of the cable. The screen consists of one or two copper tapes Cu, Fig. 1, parallel with the axis of the conductor A with overlapping edges. The tapes may be transversely corrugated before application and are enclosed by iron or iron alloy tapes Fe wound with a small pitch and a small spacing in the same or opposite directions. When an outer tubular conductor B is provided, the iron layer is enclosed by a second copper layer Cu and the conductor B may have a similar shield to the conductor A. The lead sheath S may have metallic or fibrous armouring, and paper layers may be provided adjacent each conductor. In a modification, Fig. 3, the copper layer consists of a pair of oppositely wound overlapping tapes of equal or unequal pitch. Specification 351,491 and U.S.A. Specification 1,933,261 are referred to.
