Abstract
552,893. Gas-blast switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., AMER, D. F., and WEBB, W. H. Sept. 25, 1941, No. 12448. [Class 38 (v)] A gas-blast switch comprises a movable bridging contact C in the form of a series of inwardly spring-pressed fingers carried by a fluid-actuated piston C<SP>1</SP>, the contact being adapted normally to bridge a tubular contact D and a metal nozzle B. In opening circuit, one end of the arc drawn between C, D is transferred to the tip D' of a rod or tube D<SP>2</SP> carried by the tube D and the other end through the nozzle, where there may be a special contact such as B' in Fig. 2. The rod D may alternatively perform both functions or a rod F with an extension F' in Fig. 2 may be employed. In Fig. 2, the contact C and piston C' are arranged so as to move in the opposite direction to the blast through the nozzle. The Specification refers also to a form in which the bridge C is omitted and contact D itself moves to break the circuit, the central rod being fixed. The Provisional Specification refers also to modifications in detail and to Specification 552,924.
