[Class 44] The lock-mechanism assembly of a padlock is retained in the padlock casing by a separate retaining member which is inserted in a recess provided between assembly and casing and engages surfaces of the two parts to retain them. As shown, the lock-mechanism assembly is of known pin-tumbler revolving barrel type comprising a barrel 23 retained in a bore in the assembly casing 24 by a retainer member 25 and which are moved to release the barrel by insertion of the key, not shown, the barrel being as shown, housing the spring-loaded pin-tumblers then rotatable by the key. The shackle 11 is mounted in the padlock case 10 and is locked by a rotatable bolt 13 mounted on an internal projection 15 and biased to locking position by a torsion spring 14 against which the bolt is rotated to release position by engagement with a rib 22 on the inner end of barrel 23. The unlocked shackle is projected from casing 10 by a spring 12 to an extent limited by engagement of a member 20 mounted on projection 15, with a shoulder 21 on the shackle. A groove 34 is formed in the lock casing and registers with a recess 32. The retaining member comprises a length of spring bar 26 having its ends 29, 30 bent or off-set in opposite directions. Parts 23, 24 are inserted in casing 10 to rest against shoulder 35, the shackle is moved to dotted-line position, and member 26 is inserted through shackle bore 36 into groove 34 and pressed home. During the insertion the member 26 is stressed so that when pressed home the lower end bears to the left against shutter 33 and the upper end snaps into recess 32 behind shoulder 31.
