Abstract
545,298. Aircraft and aircraft propellers, de-icing. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., SPORBORG, H. N., and CLARK, L. J. Jan. 14, 1941, No. 503. Addition to 525,452. [Classes 4 and 114] To obviate the use of a source of alternating current in the de-icing equipment for aircraft described in the parent Specification, the transformer is replaced by a generator comprising a stationary primarywinding which is fed from a source of direct current and serves as a field-exciting winding, whilst the secondary winding is mounted on a rotating part such as the airscrew and acts on an armature winding. Alternatively, the primary winding may be replaced by one or more permanent magnets. The generator shown in Fig. 1 has a stationary primary-winding consisting of a single coil 1 and an annular core 2 having pole-pieces 3 extending alternately from opposite faces. The secondary winding consists of rotating core 8 and winding 9. The primarywinding may be external to the secondary winding. The generator shown in Fig. 4 comprises a stationary permanent magnet 14 having poles 15, and a rotating armature consisting of a core 13 and winding 10. For disabling the equipment, a non-magnetic ring 17 is turned until iron keepers 16 thereon occupy positions between adjacent poles 15.
