Abstract

542,273. Locking closures for containers. ELPHICK, S. March 28. 1941, No. 4194. [Class 125 (iii)] The filler cap 18 of a petrol tank or like container is locked in the closed position by a bent arm 15, one end of which is pivoted to a stud 10 secured to the cap, while the other end has a longitudinal slot to pass over a lug 23 on a stud secured to the casing; the lug 23 has a slot 26 to receive the hasp of a padlock. The stud 10 has a rib 12 projecting from its upper face and the hole 13 in the rib receives the pivot on which the arm 15 swings; the under face of the stud has projecting wards 14 on opposite sides of the stem 20. These wards fit in slots formed in the cap 18 and the stem is secured by a washer 21 and nut 19. The padlock carrying stud may be replaced by a lock, the arm 15 then having a catch piece for engagement by the lock. In a modification the arm 15 is replaced by two arms hinged together to bridge the whole of the cap. One end of the joined arms is pivoted to a stud, similar to the stud 10, which is secured to the container neck while the other end is secured by locking to a stud on the opposite side of the neck.
