540,867. Surgical dressings or protectors. KENDALL, J. C. June 26, 1940, No. 10892. [Class 81 (ii)] A dressing adapted to maintain a wound surrounded by inert gas comprises a pad 3 of rubber or like material provided around its edges with an adhesive by which it is affixed to the skin, and a tube 6 for admitting inert gas to the cavity 5 under the pad, Until required for use the pad affixed to a protective sheet 4 is of adhesive plaster or the like. For covering wounds on a limb or a foot the dressing may be made in the form of a sleeve or sock respectively. After the dressing is applied, the limb may be encased in plaster, and the dressing may be formed with projections which engage the plaster and keep the pad away from the wound surface in case it becomes deflated.
