Abstract
523,357. Propelling aircraft. RUDE, J. Jan. 2, 1939, No. 13. [Class 4] An aircraft, particularly a monoplane, having one or more propulsion units b suspended under the wing a, has a shield f between the wing and the propulsion unit, the object of which is to prevent interference between the slipstream from the propeller and the airflow under the wing. The relative positions of the wing, the shield, and the airscrew may be adjustable. For example, a removable portion i may be interposed in the nacelle bracket e. The portion i may serve as a vibration-damper. The shield f may be tiltable and may have an adjustable flap g at its trailing edge. If both screws c and d are under the wing, each may have its own shield. The shield may be shaped in crosssection to conform to the shape of the slipstream.
