Abstract
511,040. Melting-furnaces. STEIN & ATKINSON, Ltd., and BOOTH, T. A. Feb. 8, 1938, No. 3945. [Class 51 (ii)] A furnace for melting aluminium comprises a hearth or receptacle 7 with immersed heat radiating tubes 2 e.g. of the kind described in Specifications 452,204, 469,114, 487,764 and 488,101 each tube being fired at one end by a burner, such e.g. as the burner described in Specification 452,204, which produces a long flame by delaying the mixing of the gas and air, and the products of combustion being exhausted at the other end of the tube after traversing it once only. The lower tubes are of " hairpin " form, and the upper one is a triple tube with the burner delivering into the middle limb and exhausters at the en d of the outer limbs. The tubes may have varying cross sections at different parts of their lengths, and they are sealed to the furnace wall in a bushing 5 of rammed refractory material. The furnace shown is tiltably mounted on rollers 9.
