Abstract

499,083. Condensers. MALLORY PATENTS HOLDING CO., Ltd. April 22, 1938, No. 12172. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1937. [Class 37] The end of a condenser casing is sealed by applying three discs, the middle disc 17 being of deformable material such as rubber, the two outer 16, 18 being of hard insulating- material. At least one of the terminal strips 12, 13 passes through a hole in the three discs and is clamped to a terminal piece 22 which has a bent over part anchored between the upper disc 18 and the soft disc 17. When the three discs are clamped firmly together in the end of the casing 10 as by flanging over the top edge 15. The other terminal strip 13 may be held against the casing by the edges of the discs. In modifications, an externally screwed insulating cap 40, Fig. 7, may also be held under the flanging 41 of the casing, the terminal piece may comprise a brass screwed bush the head of which is held between the discs while the terminal strip passes through the centre and is secured by a cap nut. Vents may be provided through the discs, either by punching aligned holes therein, closed by sheet rubber with a pinhole, or by a pellet of wax &c. or by providing a pinhole only in the rubber disc 17.
