496,562. Slicing-machines. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and MILLS, R. May 31, 1937, No. 15071. [Class 28 (ii)] The face plate of a last-slice holder is provided with depressions in proximity to the substance engaging hook-like projections, so that the substance can be pressed locally into the depressions to permit the projections to take a deep grip in the substance, notwithstanding that the general thickness of the last slice is determined by the face as a whole. The depressions may be in the form of groove-like recesses 18 extending across the upper and/or lower ends of the holes 16 through which the projections 15 pass. Alternatively, the grooves may be vertical, the holes 16 lying in the grooves. In this case, the projections 15 are withdrawn more than usual to ensure satisfactory masking when inoperative. In a modification, small horizontally spaced circular depressions are formed at one end of each of the holes 16, or such. depressions may be associated with groups of holes 16, the remaining holes having no depressions.
