495,550. Discharge lamps; luminescent screens. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 13, 1938, No. 11365. Convention date, April 16, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XX] The envelope of an electric gas discharge tube, or a screen associated therewith, is made of luminescent glass coated on the side adjacent the discharge with a luminescent pulverulent layer and provided on the other side with a fogged translucent layer, such as opal glass. In the example described, the tube 1 is made cylindrical and of a luminescent glass, such as green fluorescent uranium glass. The interior is provided with a coating 2 of red-luminescent zinc-beryllium silicate applied in powdered form with a binder such as glycerine, phosphoric acid or a readily softening enamel. The outside is coated with a layer 3 of opal glass. The tube comprises two electrodes 4 and is provided with a filling of rare gas and mercury vapour at low pressure. Where a screen associated with the tube is provided, this may be in the form of an envelope surrounding the tube and combined therewith to form a unit. Specification 473,587 is referred to.
