Abstract
463,337. Mixing. FARRER, J. O. (Continental Can Co., Inc.) Oct. 2, 1935, No. 27213. [Class 86] [Also in Group VI] A machine for mixing and moistening products comprises a chamber 15 with parallelly disposed agitators 16 mounted to the lower part rotating in opposite directions, the chamber being so disposed that when the agitators rotate inwardly, the products are thrown in paths intersecting above the agitators where moistening nozzles 40 supply a mist or spray of water. The machine is applicable to moistening the coffee flakes described in Specification 397,776, [Group VI]. In the form shown, two chambers 15, 42 are provided, each with its pair of agitators 16. These are inwardly and oppositely rotated by a belt 71 and toothed wheels 34, 67. The agitators comprise a tubular shaft 16 with spirally arranged arms 19 carrying streamlined paddles or blades 22, Fig. 4. The product is fed into the upper chamber by a pipe provided with a control valve, and pass into the lower chamber through the plate 43. The product is thrown upwards by the blades and moistened by sprays of water from nozzles 40 supplied by the pipe 38. Cover plates 10 with handles 14 and glass windows 13 enable the products to be inspected during this process.
