448,756. Filling-heads for bottling- machines. HARLEY, C. B., 60, Holmdene Avenue, Herne Hill, London. Nov. 15, 1935, No. 31600. [Class 125 (ii)] [See also Group XVIII] A filling-head for a bottling- machine which delivers a measured quantity of liquid controlled by an air-lock developed in the measuring chamber, has two interdependent valves O, M one controlling the supply and the other the delivery of the liquid. Liquid enters the measuring chamber in the direction of the arrows until it reaches the lower end of the pipe F when an air-lock occurs. The position of the pipe F'may be made adjustable. To disassemble the device it is only necessary to turn the sleeve I relatively to the part C. The filling tube L slides vertically in the sleeve I. Above the valve M is a small spigot on which a floating member N is slidably mounted and which contacts the valve seat D when the tube L is lifted by a bottle. The member N receives an up-thrust from a small coiled spring housed within the hollow shaft thereof. This shaft has three tongues at the upper end to space it from the member C and to allow free passage of liquid. A disc Q at the lower end of the tube L is engaged by the bottles in their upward movement and comprises a directing nozzle to prevent frothing. A spring R urges the tube L downwardly. The head may be used on rotary or fixed machines.
