Abstract
447,094. Pipe joints. SOC. ANON. ETERNIT PIETRA ARTIFICIALE, 8, Piazza Corridoni, Genoa, Italy. June 21, 1935, No. 17885. Convention date, June 22, 1934. [Class 99 (i)] A pipe coupling comprises a lead sleeve c which embraces the ends of the pipes and which also acts as a lining to two collars a, b the bores of which are tapered outwardly. The sleeve is flared at its ends so that the pipes may be slightly out of alignment and is caulked when the pipes are in position. The collars a, b only contact at their inner edge A, a space C D being left to allow the joint to flex. In a modification, Fig. 7, the sleeve is a double cone of smaller diameter at its ends and the collars have tapered bores so that they compress the sleeve when driven together. The collars may be made of cast iron, forged iron or steel, or asbestos cement reinforced by a surrounding metal ring.
