Abstract

446,670. Knitting-machines. JONES, T. H., The Aspens, Breck Hill Road, Woodthorpe, Nottinghamshire. Oct. 29, 1934, Nos. 30961/34 and 24630/35. [Class 74 (ii)] A ladder-resistant or openwork fabric is knitted on a circular machine which has means for spreading or displacing loops from spaced needles and for causing adjacent needles to transfix the said loops. The needles may be alternately short and long 15, 151 with side projections 14 for spreading the loops. When operated by cams, Fig. 2, at position A the needle 15 is raised to spread the loop SL, at B the needle 15<1> passes through the spread loop, and then both needles knit in the usual manner. When operated by cams, Fig. 3, at position A needle 15 is raised to spread the loop SL, at B the needle 15<1> draws the spread loop through the old loop L<1> and at D both needles have taken thread and draw loops as shown in Fig. 3E. As shown in Fig. 1, the loops on alternate needles are pierced by fingers 12 which spread them on to the adjacent needles. The needles may be all of one length and provided some with short plain butts 26<1> to engage a channelled cam ring 28 and some with channelled butts 26 to engage a short plain cam ring 29.
