Abstract

429,732. Helmets &c. HELMETS, Ltd., Cromwell Works, Wheathampstead, HOBSON, H. T., 23, Clarence Road, St. Albans, and NOBLETT, T. J., Moat House, Wheathampstead, both in Hertfordshire. Oct. 12, 1934, No. 29288. [Class 63] In a helmet or other protective head covering for resisting blows, the upper part 1 of the crown is moulded from one piece of fibre board, and the body part 3 of the crown is made from a separately moulded piece of fibre board, the two parts being riveted or otherwise secured together after moulding. The piece which is to constitute the lower part 3 is cut in the form of a strip with inclined side edges 4, which is bent round and moulded to the required shape, the edges 4 being secured together by rivets 5. The helmet &c. is provided with a cushioning cradle comprising a number of U-shaped strips 11 gathered together by a cord 20, and each strip 11 is folded upon itself as at 12, Fig. 4, a pad 13 being inserted in the fold to space the sweatband 14 from the material of the helmet. The folded ends 12 of the strips 11 together with the pads 13 are secured to the part 3 of the helmet by means of stitching 18 which serves also to secure the sweatband 14 in position. The exterior of the helmet is coated with a waterproof composition.
