421,788. Fracture appliances. RENEVEY, E., Rue de la Maison Rouge, Yverdon, Switzerland. June 29, 1934, No. 19243. Convention date, June 29, 1933. [Class 81 (ii)] Apparatus for the extension and positioning of fractured bones comprises a pair of metal wires a, b, such as piano wires, which are passed through the bone above and below the fracture, two arcuate yokes f, g, adapted to embrace the ends of and to tension the wires, and two extension members w, v, lying one on each side of the bone and capable of elongation to force apart the yokes to which they are connected. The yokes are each made in two parts, one part carrying a pair of pins j, l, which enter recesses in the other part. The wires a, b, pass through bores in the yokes and are secured thereto by set screws s which press the wires into recesses t. The halves of the yokes are then pressed apart to tension the wires by turning the pins l, which are screw threaded, the pins serving as guides for this movement. The extension members each comprise a screw v engaging a tapped portion of the part w, these parts having ball heads y secured in sockets in the yokes by set screws 2. By rotating the parts w, by a tool inserted in holes x, and subsequently securing them, the parts of the fractured bone e may be drawn apart and fixed. The apparatus permits the fixing of the wires a, b, and the yokes f, g, in any relative angular positions in parallel or non-parallel planes according to the part, such as the shin, the forearm, or the finger, to be treated. The yokes and extension members may be made of non-corroding metal, hard metal seatings being provided for the wires a, b, in the bores of the yokes.
