Abstract

400,763. Delivering measured quantities of liquids. GRIFFIN, E. G., 56, Ludgate Hill, London.-(Slattery, E. T. ; 12, Alma Road, St. Kilda, Victoria, Australia.) Sept. 19, 1932, No. 26062. [Class 106 (v).] In apparatus for delivering measured quantities of liquids from bottles, casks, &c. of the type comprising a transparent measuring chamber 4 in which is disposed a fixed tube 10 with inlet and outlet ports 14, 15 for the liquid, controlled by a freely slidable valve 16, and an air port 28 the position of which determines the quantity of liquid supplied to the measure, the lower end of the valve 16 is provided with a stem 17 which passes through the outlet nozzle 6 and is adapted to contact with the bottom of a glass or other receptacle, and from this stem there projects means 22 to operate the air control valve 27. The device shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a tapered transparent measuring chamber 4 with a cover 5 and nozzle 6, a cork 8 on the upper end of the tube 10 forming the connection to an inverted bottle 3. The tube 10 contains the slide valve 16 which coacts with ports 14, 15, and is lifted by the stem 17 contacting with the bottom of a tumbler held beneath it. The stem 17 has a lateral inclined extension 22 pivoted to the end of a lever 24, which operates a counter 25 and the spring-loaded air-inlet valve 27. When this is open, air enters the bottle by way of the tube 12, and the liquid in the measuring chamber 4 passes into the tumbler by way of the ports 15 and the nozzle 16. When the valve drops, the outflow is cut off and the chamber fills through the ports 14 and the perforated partition just above them. In a modification, Fig. 4, the lower end of the tube 12 is connected to a slotted and graduated tube 33 with a sleeve 35 slidable upon it so as to regulate the liquid level at which the air inlet to the bottle &c. is cut off, and consequently to control the amount of liquid measured off.
