[Classes 18 and 66.] A box, carton, pail, or similar container comprises a tubular body, one end portion of which is capable of being flared outwardly and has a part or parts to project inwardly from the outer end of said portion, and a base having a side wall which converges upwardly to engage the outwardly flared end of the body portion to hold the base and body in assembled relation. The body is made by folding a blank 20, Figs. 1 and 7, to form a tube 120 and securing the overlapping edges with rivets 125. The blank is slit at its lower end to form a plurality of fingers 123 with ends 23. The fingers are scored along lines 21, 22. The bottom structure may be moulded to the form shown in Fig. 10 or may be formed from a paper or cloth wrapper 29 on which is placed a paper, celluloid or glass disc 30 and a collar formed by folding the blank 25, Fig. 2, to form a ring. The wrapper 29, Fig. 8, is folded over the upwardly converging side wall 26 of the member 25 and is tucked in to overlap the finger members 27 thereon. It may be fastened by adhesive. The second disc 30 is then forced into position over the end 126 of the wrapper 29 and the fingers 27 of the member 25. The body member is then placed in position and the fingers 123 are flared outwardly and the ends 23 of the fingers secured by forcing a third disc 32 into the bottom structure. The collar 25 may be of metal and the wrapper 29 and disc 30 may be omitted. In some cases the middle disc 31 may be omitted. In a modification the body blank is shaped so that when folded it produces a conical container, and sheet-metal pieces are secured to the body to receive a bail handle. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also drawings showing a tubular container of polygonal cross section formed by folding a blank 210, Fig. 15 (Cancelled), to form a tube, securing the overlapping edges of the blank by wire staples 222 and attaching a bottom member comprising a downwardly flanged disc 216 also with wire staples 225. The top of the blank is bent over to form a flange 214 round the neck of the container. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
