Abstract

[Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v).] In a television system wherein the picture &c. is scanned line by line, the lower frequency band resulting from the image repetition is transmitted along wires 3, while the higher frequency band resulting from the line scanning and picture details is transmitted over a high-frequency carrier wave, preferably an ultra-short wave. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the higher frequencies are conveyed by lines 6 from the television transmitter 4 to the high-frequency transmitter 1, while corresponding elements are arranged at the receiver, namely, the high-frequency receiver 2, the television receiver 5, and connecting lines 7 therebetween. A line 3, preferably with an earth return, serves for the transmission of the potential which controls the image frequency, e.g. a saw-tooth or tilting potential applied to one pair of plates of a Braun tube, a high resistance 14 or equivalent safety device being inserted to avoid accidents due to short-circuiting &c., particularly in the case of a number of receivers being supplied. The system may also include a telephone transmitter 8 and receiver 9, the sound frequencies being modulated on to the high-frequency carrier wave, preferably with a suitable filter arranged before the transmitter 1. The receiver includes a high-frequency amplifier for dealing with the picture frequencies and a low frequency amplifier for dealing with the sound and image control frequencies, an additional filter preferably being inserted before the loud-speaker. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 2, lines 10, 11 are arranged at the transmitter for the separate modulation on to the carrier wave of the line frequency band and picture currents, corresponding lines 12, 13 being provided at the receiver.
