[Class 97 (i).] In a metal hinge for a non-metallic spectacle frame, at least one of the two members connected together at the pivotal axis of the hinge comprises two arms extending in planes at right-angles to the pivotal axis and passing over the usual lug at the side of the front of the frame, or over the end portion of a side, so as to bring apertures at the ends of the arms into register with a bore passing through the lug or side, a screw being passed through all three apertures to secure the hinge member in position. In Figs. 1 and 2 the hinge members comprise arms 19, 21 secured to the side 11 and arms 20, 22 secured to the lug 15 of the frame 12. The inner ends of the arms 19, 21 are formed as apertured lugs passing between the apertured inner ends of the arms 20, 22, a screw 25 being passed through all the apertures to form the hinge pivot. The hinge members fit into recesses in the upper and lower surfaces of the members 11, 15 and are secured thereto by screws 26, 27. The surfaces 13, 14, which abut when the spectacles are opened, are bevelled and, in the opened position, the axis 25 is equidistant from the frame and side. When the side and frame abut as shown in Fig. 6, the lugs on the side may be bent forwardly as shown so as to leave sufficient material beyond the recess in the side and at the same time reduce the thickness of the spectacles when folded. In Fig. 7 the hinge member comprising the arms 51, 52 is connected to the member comprising the arms 53, 54 by two separate coaxial pivots 55, 56.
