370,351. Wireless transmitting systems. ARDENNE, M. VON, 19, Jungfernstieg, Lichterfelde, Berlin. Nov. 23, 1931, No. 32358. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1930. [Class 40 (v).] In order to provide an ultra-short-wave broadcasting service over a comparatively large district, a plurality of spaced transmitters is employed, each transmitter operating on a different wave-length (corresponding say to frequencies s1, s2, s3) and each modulated by a series of high frequencies (l1 .. l9) carrying the respective programmes. Thus if there are three programmes, the first is modulated on the waves l1, l2, l3, the second on l4, l5, l6 and the third on l7, l8, l9, assuming l1, . . l9 to be arranged in ascending or descending order of frequency. The ultra-short wave of frequency s1 is then modulated by l1, l4, and l7, that of frequency s2 by l2, l5, and l8, and that of frequency s3 by l3, l6, and l9. The frequencies l1 . . l9 should all lie within a single octave, and the frequencies s1, s2, s3 should be so chosen that their differences do not lie within this octave. At the receiver, programme selection is effected by tuning an ordinary broadcast receiver to the frequencies l1 .. l9, which should lie within the broadcasting band. The short-wave adapter interposed between the aerial and the receiving set may then be untuned.
